Giffard ‘West Cup’ cocktail competition returns to Ireland

The competition is back celebrating its 27th anniversary and offering Irish bartenders a chance to showcase their skills on the global stage

Candidates will be asked to create a cocktail that reflects what makes their life as balanced as their cocktail creation

This year is the 27th anniversary of the Giffard West Cup Cocktail Competition, hosted by family-owned liqueur company, Giffard.

West Cup is a global competition that will see bartenders from 18 countries representing their country in the grand final in Angers, France in September.

The winning prize is a return flight ticket for two, anywhere in the world, to discover another cocktail culture.

Around 1200 bartenders applied to compete in the 2022 competition. On that occasion, the Ireland winner was David Richard Coe. David then travelled to France to represent Ireland in the grand final.

This year’s chosen theme is “The Art of Balance.” Candidates will be asked to create a cocktail that reflects what makes their life as balanced as their cocktail creation.

Ireland held four regional heats in early April, including: Dublin (Bar 1661), Galway (Hyde Bar), Cork (Cask) & Belfast (Rattlebag).

The four heat winners will now face off in the all-Ireland final on Monday 29 April in Zozimus Bar, Anne’s Ln, Anne St S, Dublin, D02 AK30 Dublin.

Representatives from Giffard will be flying in from France for the Ireland final. As well as having drinks industry guests and supporters of the four finalists from Galway, Belfast, Cork & Dublin.

There will also be a special French Classic car on site, where laps around St Stephens Green will be taking place in the vintage Citroen DS.
