Revenue seizes €8m worth of cigarettes

The illicit cigarettes represent a potential loss of more than €5.7 million to the Exchequer

On 15 October, as a result of risk profiling, Revenue officers seized eight million cigarettes in County Meath.

The illicit cigarettes, branded ‘MAC’, have an estimated value of €7,215,000 and represent a potential loss to the Exchequer of €5,706,000. 

Investigations are ongoing.

This seizure is part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the supply and sale of illegal cigarettes and tobacco in the shadow economy.
