Bars show largest October monthly sales growth

Volume sales in bars were up 3% in October while bar sales values grew 10.6% over the same month in 2021 according to provisional seasonally-adjusted retail sales figures for the month published by the Central Statistics Office recently.

 

Compared to the preceding month, September, October’s bar sales volumes were up by nearly 9% while values rose by nearly 12%.

However when October’s sales figures are compared with those of February 2020 (pre-Covid), bar sales volumes were still 7.5% down although values were up by nearly 7%.

Across the three-month period August to October bar sales volumes were up by nearly 10% on those for the same three-month period in 2021, while values were up by 16.7%.

Comparing this year’s August-October period with the immediately preceding May-July period bar sales volumes were up by over 13% while values rose by over 14%.

Finalised figures for last September indicate bar sales volumes up 7.3% on those of September 2021, with bar sales values up nearly 14%.

September’s figures also indicate a 1.4% volume decrease in bar sales compared to the previous month, August, with a 0.3% increase in bar sales values.

The volume of Retail Sales generally rose by 0.7% in October and decreased by 2.6% in the year. This was the sixth consecutive month that the annual volume change was negative.
