London Competitions to showcase global spirits and wines
Now in their eighth year, the London Competitions have not only set the standard for quality and innovation within the industry but have also become a powerful platform for winners to secure new listings, attract global media attention, and drive sales growth.
The London Competitions’ judges comprise a prestigious panel of industry professionals across the industry ensuring that every product is evaluated for its quality, market value, and packaging appeal.
Enrico Chaippini, judge, London Competitions, said: “London Spirits Competition is the perfect ground for both new and established spirits to check the trends and the competitors, helping them find their place in the market. Winning at LSC helps a spirit become more visible to the bartender community, building their branding and sales.”
“The LWC doesn’t just judge wines on quality; it also considers value for money and packaging. That means the wines that win here aren’t just good – they’re also market-ready. An LWC award can really elevate your brand, making it more appealing to distributors and retailers,” said Chiara Sieni, judge, London Competitions.
Global press & recognition
Indian spirits have shown remarkable success at the 2024 London Spirits Competition.
Coverage in major publications like The Economic Times and The Week highlights the growing prowess of Indian distilleries on the international stage.
Tequila, too, had its moment of glory, with Cierto Tequila being named “Tequila of the Year,” as detailed on Forbes.
“Being a gold medal winner at the LSC has had a significant impact on our sales. One of our business goals for the year was to gain more traction in the on-trade. Recognition from LSC has acted as a seal of approval in this respect as the competition is judged by some of the world’s leading figures from the hospitality sector,” said spokesperson for North Uist Distillery Co’s Downpour Gin.
Regional representation
In June 2024, the London Competitions introduced their first group of regional category ambassadors, aiming to enhance global representation across key markets.
The 10 ambassadors hail from a diverse range of countries, including Italy, France, Chile, the UK, Thailand, Romania, the EU, the US, Turkey, Spain, and South Africa.
This initiative highlights the growing international reach of the competition and their commitment to showcasing regional excellence on a global stage.
“With the increase in international food and spirits awards it can be unclear what the worth of a gold medal is. The London Spirits Competition is an exception, with buyers holding such an award in the highest esteem. This reflects the inherent value of winning gold medals at the London Spirits Competition, which has helped propel us forward as we grow Headlands both locally in Australia and further afield in overseas markets,” said spokesperson for Headlands Distilling Co.
Judging process
The judging is broken down like this: Q (Quality Score) + Value Score (V) + Package Score (P) = London Wine Competition Score.
A separate weighted score is given for each of the three parts of the judging process, quality gets twice the weight.
Quality score: marked out of 100 I Value score: marked out of 100 I Packaging score: marked out of 100.
