Blackwater No5 wins IWSC Gold

West Waterford-based Blackwater Distillery was one of just five companies worldwide shortlisted for the International Gin Producer of the Year Award at the International Wine and Spirits Competition held in London recently.

The annual IWSC awards saw Blackwater as the first Irish distillery to rate so highly in the competition.

Its Blackwater No5 Gin was awarded a Gold Medal, the only Irish gin to win an award and one of only a handful from across the world.

“We’ve been in business for a little under three years” said Blackwater‘s Creative Director Peter Mulryan, “so to be ranked alongside some of the world’s finest distilleries is a real vote of confidence in our team.’

Blackwater Distillery has just established a joint venture with Barry’s Tea that will see the limited-edition ‘Blackwater Barry’s Tea Irish Gin’ going on sale this week in the run-up to Christmas. It joins the company’s expanding gin portfolio which also includes Blackwater Wexford Strawberry Gin and Blackwater Juniper Cask Gin.

It also exclusively supplies Aldi with Boyle’s Gin, winner of Best Irish Gin at the Irish Whiskey Awards 2016 and IWSC Silver in 2017.
